South Wales Police says one person has died and seven others were injured following a road traffic collision during the early hours of this morning at Aberdare.
The collision happened around 3.30am this morning and involved a red LDV Maxus van with eight people inside.
One woman was pronounced dead at the scene and the remaining injured parties were taken to Royal Glamorgan and Prince Charles Hospitals to receive treatment.
The driver of the van, a 25 year old man from Cwmaman, Aberdare, has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and is currently in police custody pending further enquiries.
South Wales Police Family Liaison Officers are supporting the family of the woman who died.
Police investigations are continuing into the collision and anyone with information in connection to the incident, or witnessed the incident or the manor of driving prior to the collision, is asked to contact South Wales Police on 101 quoting reference number 1500281697.
