Coastguards are warning people to stay away from the base of a cliff at Portland after a huge rockfall sent hundreds of tonnes of rock crashing onto the shore.

The collapse took place yesterday afternoon at Cheyne Cliff on the island's east coast, in an area frequented by rock climbers.

Portland Coastguard say the cliff, known by climbers as the Coralized Area, is still very unstable and are warning the public to stay away.
