A pensioner who had too much to drink and crashed his car into a 12-foot-deep ditch has been banned from driving for 20 months.

65-year-old Andrew Hawthorn's car became wedged between a block of flats and an embankment in Buckfastleigh, after he drove through a wooden fence.

Hawthorn was later breathalysed and officers found he was double the legal limit.

The court has banned the 65-year-old from driving for 20 months and fined him £350 with £120 costs.

I have nothing to say because I cannot remember anything about it. I remember being at the hospital onwards. I have no lasting injuries. I will probably never drive again.
