A woman in her 50s has managed to escape with minor injuries after her car crashed into a takeaway in Ivybridge in Devon.

The black Volkswagen Passat crashed into the Taste of Bengal Bangladeshi restaurant in Costly Street at lunchtime today, 24 September. The driver managed to free herself from the car and was treated at the scene by paramedics.

Roads in the area were closed for a number of hours because there were concerns that gas and electrical appliances in the restaurant might explode.

All three emergency services were called to the scene.

On arrival crews found all persons free and clear of the vehicle. A structural engineer was requested to attend to assess the stability of the building and utilities were isolated.

One casualty was treated by Paramedics at the scene.

Crews used small tools and a short extension ladder to assess scene safety. The incident was left in the hands of the Police.
