Ambitious plans for an extension to St George's Bristol are one step closer after Arts Council England approved funding for the project.

The two million pound grant will be used to give the venue new performance, education and gallery spaces, a new cafe and renovated gardens.

The refurbishment is estimated to be £5.5m project.

The centre needs to raise at least £1m before June 30th to receive the grant.

'I'm delighted that St George's have been successful in their application for funding to transform their beautiful Grade II listed building and make it accessible to everyone. This is an important Bristol venue with a significant programme that delights audiences from Bristol and much further afield and we are very pleased to be able to support them.
