Junior doctors in the West Country begin second day of all-out strike

Junior doctors in the West Country have begun a second day of an all-out strike over new contract proposals.

For the first time junior doctors are walking out of emergency care including maternity wards, emergency surgery and A&E departments.

The strike started at 8am and will finish at 5pm.

Consultants and nursing staff will cover the loss of junior doctor labour for the second day in a row.

More than 3000 operations and appointments were cancelled yesterday at major hospitals in Devon and Cornwall.

At Truro Hospital one baker brought Cornish pasties to the picket line in support of the junior doctors there.

It's the fifth time junior doctors have walked out this year.
