The new police and crime commissioner for Devon and Cornwall has been sworn in today, despite calls by many rank and file officers for her to stand aside while she is investigated by another police force.

That investigation is looking at allegations that Alison Hernandez failed to properly declare campaign expenses in last year's General Election when she was the Tory Party agent in Torbay.

The police federation in Devon and Cornwall said today it was the wrong decision for the new police and crime commissioner to be sworn in. But Alison Hernandez says there was no secrecy about the investigation:
