'I thought I was a spaceman' - 90 year old rides UK's fastest zip wire

90-year-old Jim Essex is the oldest to have taken to the zip wire at The Eden Project

A daredevil couple from Yeovil have wizzed through the skies in Cornwall as part of their latest fundraising attempt.

Jim and Flo Essex - who are 90 and 85 years old - jumped aboard the zip wire at the Eden Project, reaching speeds of up 50mph during their descent.

It makes Jim, who has recently battled cancer, the oldest person to plummet 65ft over the cliff edge attached to a wire.

Well, I could see the trees and I thought am I too low, am I going to go under the trees - it seemed to be going under the bushes.

Have a go! All I want now is a nice cup of tea or coffee - maybe with something in it to calm the nerves.

The couple were awarded MBEs in recognition of their fundraising efforts back in 2007. Over the years, the kind-hearted duo have raised around £160,000. This latest challenge will go to a cause close to their hearts.

Jim had been very poorly. He had cancer and Yeovil Hospital staff treated him so well, so we wanted to give something back to the hospital.
