ITV has announced that presenter Ian Axton will be leaving his on screen role at ITV News West Country to take up a promotion behind the camera.
Ian, who has fronted the 6pm programme since 2010, has been appointed Head of News, assuming management and editorial responsibility for the West Country region and its 70 staff.
Last year Ian was nominated as regional presenter of the year in the national Royal Television Society Awards and has been at the heart of the major stories across the West Country over the past few years, including the M5 crash, the award-winning coverage of the floods and the murder of Becky Watts.
I've enjoyed every minute of my time on screen at ITV West Country, but this new job gives me the opportunity to work on fresh challenges within ITV and lead a great team of people.
Ian combines extensive editorial experience at ITV with board level management experience gained within the commercial radio industry, making him ideal for this role. I know he'll be missed by viewers on air, but I'm delighted he'll be joining ITV's leadership team in this senior position.
Ian will present his final programme early in the New Year.
