Four people have been rescued from vehicles after getting stuck in flood water in Devon.

Two people were rescued on Uplowman Road in Tiverton at about 8 o clock last night after getting stuck in a flash flood.

Two fire engines and a specialist rescue team helped release the occupants of the vehicle using wading poles and water safety gear.

In a separate incident two more fire engines and another specialist rescue team helped release two people trapped in a vehicle near East Allington just after 6pm.

Meanwhile the Environment Agency has issued flood alerts for several rivers in the region.

They say flooding is possible in the following areas and are warning people to be prepared:

  • The Rivers Otter and Sid and the Exmouth area

  • The River Axe and surrounding area

  • Rivers and streams in West Dorset around Lyme Regis and Bridport

  • The Mid Bristol and Avon area around Bathford, Great Somerford and Bradford-on-Avon
