He's known for being fast - but his speed has seen Somerset's Jenson Button disqualified from his latest competition.

The Formula One driver from Frome, who announced his retirement at the end of last season, was competing in an Iron Man race in California when he crossed the line - only to be told he had cycled too fast.

The competition was made up of a 1.2-mile swim, a 56 mile cycle ride and a half marathon. Button should have slowed down on part of the bike route for safety reasons but didn't brake enough.

If he hadn't been disqualified, the 37-year-old would have been able to compete in the Iron World Championships.

The F1 posted his woes on Instagram:

Well that was a pretty interesting 70.3 Ironman! Swim went well then I jumped on my awesome new bike to find that I hadn't charged the battery for the gears so I was stuck in the toughest gear with 900meters of climbing.

Ran a 1hr 23 min off the bike which I was pretty happy with, finished 3rd in age group so qualified for the World champs only to be disqualified for speeding in a go slow zone.

Ah well onto the next one!
