A man has been injured after a camping gas canister exploded inside a van in Redland in Bristol.

It happened near the top of Cranbrook Road at 7.30am this morning, 28 April and ripped the vehicle apart.

People living near by said the explosion rocked their homes and they could feel the strength of the blast.

At about half past seven I heard a big boom and the windows shook. I had no idea what was going on.

When I went to the window all I could see was people looking out of their homes in their dressing gowns to see what had happened. Then I heard the sirens.

I saw the damage to the van on my way to work and it was really shocking. It was a relief that no one was more seriously hurt.

The victim was treated at the scene by paramedics before being taken to hospital. The first his father knew of the explosion was when he saw it on the news and recognised the registration plate of his son's vehicle

The victim's father has told ITV News West Country that his son had picked up a camping gas canister from a friend last night. He was due to take his son on a rugby tour to Woolacombe in Devon tomorrow.
