Armed police to be deployed at summer solstice
Armed Police are to be deployed to ensure public safety at the summer solstice event at Stonehenge.
The solstice overnight next Tuesday is not at risk of any specific threat but police will be patrolling in the wake of the terror attacks in London and Manchester.
The move is part of an increased security response at major events and festivals across the region this summer.
Security will also be high at the Glastonbury Festival which also takes place next week and at festivals across Devon and Cornwall this summer.
MTV Crashes Plymouth takes place at the end of July, Boardmasters in Newquay is in August while Lockdown Festival at Powderham Castle begins at the start of September.
Security firms across the South West have seen a surge in demand for their services with one firm saying event organisers who have never booked security in the past are now taking precautions.
