A historic waterfront cafe in South Devon which dates back to the Victorian times has been destroyed by fire overnight.
Emergency services were called to the Beachcomber Cafe after the kitchen caught fire at around 10:30pm.
Police had to deal with large crowds who gathered to watch after leaving a nearby Carnival.
The Beachcomber in Teignmouth is in the heart of the town. It prides itself on using local suppliers, and is located right in front of the seafront.
By 11pm the fire service said the kitchen area of the café was well alight, and the remainder of the property was heavily smoke logged.
Crowds gathered on the waterfront last night as part of the carnival week in the area, with a funfair on The Den and a music event attracting large numbers of people.
The main fire was out by 11.30pm and crews said it was completely out by 12.15am.
The kitchen has been severely damaged by fire and the rest of the building by smoke and heat. Three hose reels and one safety jet were needed to control the fire.
A fire investigation is now being carried out to find out how it was caused. There are no reports of any injuries.
