A Devon man is appealing for the public's help in locating his famous scarecrow that was tragically stolen over the weekend.

Frederick The Scarecrow is a minor celebrity in the village of Chettiscombe, near Tiverton.

He attends the Mid Devon Show every year and keeps the public updated on his movements with his own Instagram page (Fredrick_the_scarecrow).

Unfortunately the scarecrow, that stands at the signpost for Bampton, was taken in the very early hours of Saturday July 29.

It is believed that the theft occurred at about 3am after a group were spotted running towards Bampton.

Brett Chamberlain has owned Frederick for a number of years. His children miss the scarecrow and Brett would like it to be returned.

Police have been informed of the incident and this is not the first time the scarecrow had been taken without permission.

Frederick's disappearance comes at a very unfortunate time with the Bampton Scarecrow Festival fast approaching.
