A stretch of Lyme Regis beach has been closed because a suspected hand grenade has been found.

It is reported that a person hunting for fossils at East Cliff discovered the object.

Police have been notified and a team of bomb disposal experts are travelling to the beach to deal with the item.

Lyme Regis is a popular location for fossil seekers.

The Dorset town is part of the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site.

We got the call at 10.41 this morning. Officers did attend but the Lyme Regis coastguard team are dealing with it and have cleared the beach and the bomb disposal people are en route.
