Dog rescued after volunteers use drones to conduct search

A border terrier from Devon has been rescued after volunteers used drones to conduct a six-day search.

Members of the Drone SAR For Lost Dogs UK Facebook group used their drones to search fields and farms in the area after Ted the terrier was declared missing.

The group checked a nearby quarry and spotted Ted but could not reach him.

The search party called the Fire and Rescue service and were joined by Buckfastleigh Fire Station, soon followed by teams from Plymouth and Barnstaple.

The Fire Service then rescued Ted from the quarry floor.

Miraculously, Ted seems to have escaped unscathed from his ordeal.

I am so pleased to say that Ted was found today and returned home to his family.

Our drone footage from earlier in the week was used by the fire service to survey the quarry for risks and access. Another way drones can be used to effect a recovery and rescue.
