Water restored for most, but problems remain for properties in Leckhampton

Water has been restored to homes in Cheltenham after a burst pipe cut off thousands of homes and businesses.

The problem was traced to a field in Churchdown and teams from Severn Trent Water have been working to fix the damage.

The company says, although the pressure may be a little lower and the water murky, it'll return to normal throughout the day.

However, some properties in the Leckhampton area are continuing to have a problem this morning. The company in charge of the water supply believe it's due to air having got into the pipes. They say they're working to get rid of it and to get the pressure back to normal.

The burst yesterday morning was on one of Severn Trent's biggest pipes, which caused disruption to so many people.

Customers have been advised to run the cold tap at a gentle rate for 20 minutes - to help the water to clear.

Although water supplies are back on, until the network is all back to normal, the company are continuing to make bottled water available at Morrisons in Hatherley, Cheltenham GL51 3BW.

As a consequence of the changes in pressure, they've also been some other small bursts in the area which are being attended to by people on the ground.
