Clear skies by night and by day have led to a dramatic drop in temperatures. High pressure is pulling in some cold air from the Arctic.
Late night temperatures just stayed above freezing - Exeter in Devon recorded 0.8 C while it was 1.5 C at Yeovilton in Somerset.
This week the conditions are going to vary. A band of rain tonight will be moving across the region tomorrow.
Another cold spell on Wednesday, more rain for Thursday and looking cloudy and chilly for Friday.
It sets the scene for a cold weekend.
