The body of a man was found at the side of the A358 between Hatch Beauchamp and Ashill at Stewley in Somerset last night, 12 November at around 11.40pm.

Paramedics, who were called to the location, gave the man treatment, but he died at the scene.

An investigation into what happened has found the following:

  • The man may have been in collision with a vehicle, which remained at the scene
  • The vehicle was travelling north along the road, towards Taunton when it hit the pedestrian
  • It is believed the man was walking along the road with a group of four men and walked away from three of them.

The road was closed for a forensic examination and was then re-opened shortly before 6am this morning, 13 November.

Avon and Somerset Police are now appealing for witnesses, especially anyone who may have been driving along the A358 around the time of the incident.

Anyone with any information is urged to call 101, quoting reference 5217259376.
