Royal Cornwall Hospital remains on 'black alert'
Cornwall's main hospital remains on 'black alert' this afternoon as it struggles to cope with unprecedented high demand.
The Royal Cornwall Hospital in Trelisk has been operating at level four all over Christmas - the very highest marker for capacity and pressure on services.
The hospital has been at level four for the past three festive periods, with resources stretched to the maximum.
Routine operations may be cancelled in order to prioritise more urgent cases.
Last month the RCH joined other hospitals across the region in preparing for a busy winter period.
It is not known when the level four status will be changed.
