  • UPDATE: Police have reported Ella Read has now been found safe.

Avon and Somerset Police are appealing to the public to help locate missing girl Ella Read, whose disappearance is "out of character".

The 14 year old was dropped off at Holyrood Academy in Chard at 8.10am yesterday, 29 January, but did not attend registration.

She is familiar with using public transport and police believe she may have travelled south into the Devon and Cornwall area.

Ella is white, of medium build and 5 feet 4 inches tall. She has bobbed brown hair.

She was last seen wearing a black puffer-style jacket over her school uniform: a black blazer, white shirt and a black skirt. She was also carrying a school bag.

Ella’s disappearance is out of character and we’re concerned for her welfare.

Temperatures were close to freezing last night and, from what we know, she certainly wasn’t prepared for sleeping outdoors.

She’s likely to be scared and very cold and we want to find her as soon as possible.

We’re using a significant amount of resources, including the police dogs, to find Ella but we really need the public to support us.

– Detective Inspector Lindsay Shearlock

Anyone who sees her is urged to contact the police on 999, giving the call handler with reference 5218021193.
