Shock after Britain's youngest councillor found dead

Tributes have been paid to a young councillor from Devon who has been found dead at the age of just 21.

Clarissa Slade, was 18 when she was elected for the Conservatives on Mid Devon District Council in 2015.

The student, who was studying Classical Studies at the University of Winchester was reportedly found in her flat by a housemate on Monday.

Police are currently treating her death as unexplained and are waiting for the coroner to give any information regarding the cause of her death.

Local MPs and colleagues have been paying tribute to Ms Slade on social media.

Clive Eginton, leader of Mid Devon District Council told the Telegraph:

"Clarissa had an endearing personality to all those who knew her well, and we will miss her enormously."

Clarissa's parents, Colin and Elizabeth Slade - who are councillors themselves - have spoken to ITV News, describing her as a "remarkable young woman".
