A couple from Looe in Cornwall has received a lifetime animal ban for keeping 73 cats in terrible conditions.

David O'Dell, 70, and Penelope O'Dell, 71, were found keeping the cats in their home suffering with a number of ailments.

They both appeared at Bodmin Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, 5 April, where they admitted offences of causing unnecessary suffering to cats and of failing to provide their cats with a suitable environment.

Six of the cats had to be put to sleep by a vet and others have since been successfully re-homed.

Both Mr and Mrs O'Dell were given a 12-week prison sentence, suspended for 18 months, and a lifetime ban on keeping all animals.
