Angry passengers complain of 'shocking' overcrowding on train to Penzance

Angry rail passengers have hit out at Great Western Rail following 'shameful' overcrowding on board a train to Cornwall.

The 12.30pm train from London Paddington to Penzance on Monday was reportedly missing a coach, while passengers complained about a lack of air conditioning and families being forced to stand or sit on the floor for the entire journey.

Sophie Walker was among those who took to Twitter to express her frustration.

GWR has apologised, saying passengers can apply for compensation if their journey has been delayed.

“Unfortunately this train is busier than usual because of ongoing engineering work at Newbury, and it operating with a carriage less than planned due to a fault. Customers with a booked seat reservation who are unable to sit at their allocated seat will be entitled to a refund.

“When stopping at Bristol we also advised customers that another, less busy service was departing a few minutes later to help improve their journey experience.”
