Plans to downgrade services at the Sunrise Cancer Centre in Truro could be abandoned

Plans to downgrade services at the Sunrise Centre in Truro may be abandoned after more than 11,000 people objected to the proposals.

The specialist cancer centre at The Royal Cornwall Hospital was due to have huge cuts to its services.

It is now likely to stay in Cornwall after The Sunrise Appeal campaigned to retain its services at The Sunrise Centre earlier this year.

This announcement means patients hopefully won't have to leave the county for treatment.

For many the only option would have been to travel to Plymouth, Exeter, or Bristol.

NHS England revealed it received 12,000 responses as a result of the campaign - the largest response ever to any public consultation.

A spokesperson for NHS England has said "We provided an update on the themes that came out of the radiotherapy consultation and the changes we are intending to make to our proposals as a result.

"We will be publishing a full consultation report along with revised proposals later in the autumn.ā€
