There was chaos on the M4 during Monday's rush hour after two separate serious accidents.

They happened shortly after 7am between junction 16 for Swindon and junction 17 for Chippenham, both eastbound and westbound.

Five vehicles were involved in the crash, with one carrying thousands of nails and screws. It took authorities up to four hours to clear the carriageways.

They say, everyone involved in the accident escaped with only minor injuries.

Trowbridge Fire Station tweeted earlier that one of their heavy rescue units "struggled to cross" the M4 Eastbound to Westbound this morning.

The roads are now clear after up to 13 miles of tailbacks were cleared.
