Woman suffers ‘life-changing’ injuries in alleged cyclist hit-and-run

A man has been arrested after a woman suffered “life-changing” injuries in a collision with a cyclist.

The woman, aged in her 70s, was knocked down by a rider while crossing the road in East Street, Bedminster.

The male cyclist allegedly left his bike and ran from the scene, which prompted an urgent appeal by Avon and Somerset Police.

A 26-year-old man was later arrested in Fraser Street, at around 3.50pm, by British Transport Police.

In a statement, Avon and Somerset Police said: “A man is in the cells in connection with a collision involving a cyclist and a woman pedestrian in Bedminster on Tuesday, January 15.

“British Transport Police colleagues arrested a 26-year-old man in Fraser Street at about 3.50pm. He is still in police custody at the time of writing.

The collision happened in East Street, Bedminster, just before 9am today as the woman was crossing the road.

A woman in her 70s remains in hospital receiving treatment to injuries believed to be life-changing.
