Police have launched a murder investigation after a man in his thirties died in Wells yesterday afternoon (Saturday 23 March).

Officers were called to a property on Merlin Drive at 4:25pm where they found two men with knife wounds on nearby Wookey Hole Road.

Despite best efforts from paramedics one of the men died of his injuries at the scene.

The other man, also in his thirties, is in hospital with serious but not life threatening injuries.

Armed officers were deployed to the area along with the police helicopter.

Six men and two women, all from the Somerset area have been arrested in relation to the incident and remain in police custody.

We’re carrying out a full investigation into what is clearly a very tragic incident. Specially trained officers will be providing support to the man’s family and our thoughts are with them as they come to terms with the devastating news they have been given.
