Happy Holi! Hundreds celebrate Hindu ‘festival of colour’ in Swindon

More than a thousand people came together in Swindon to celebrate the Hindu Holi festival.

Also known as the 'Festival of Colours, the event is celebrated across the world with the throwing of colourful paints and water.

The festival traditionally marks the end of winter and the start of spring, and is a celebration of unity.

Organiser Pradeep Bhardwaj said Holi is so much more than simply a religious event.

I think this festival is not just a Hindu festival anymore. This is one of the very few multicultural events we have.

It does not just have religious significance but also huge social and cultural significance as well.

It is one of the few festivals which promotes and fosters equality and diversity, and it brings communities together.
