Wells stabbing victim identified as 34-year-old man from Glastonbury

A man who died of stab wounds following an incident in Wells has been identified as 34-year-old Jonathan Roper from Glastonbury.

Police were called to a property on Merlin Driveon Saturday 23 March where they found two men with knife wounds on Wookey Hole Road.

Jonathan died at the scene and another man, also in his thirties, was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Family members have paid tribute to the 34-year-old:

Jonathan was a devoted family man much loved by his family and friends, he will be greatly missed. We as a family are very grateful for the assistance we have been given by the police and fully support their investigation.

They also said: "All of Jonathan's family respectfully request that we are given privacy to grieve the loss of our loved one at this very difficult time."

Seven men and three women, all from the Somerset area, have been arrested by police and remain in custody.

Avon and Somerset police have increased patrols in the area to reassure the local community.
