An elderly man from Trowbridge has been left distressed after having his medal collection stolen by burglars.

The 91-year-old's house in Newleaze in Hilperton is thought to have been targeted by two men, who broke into his house overnight.

A large amount of cash was taken, as well as a collection of medals and badges.

Police are now appealing for information after two suspects, one on foot and one on a bike, were seen in the area around the time of the burglary.

PC Aimee Jenkins, from Wiltshire West Community Policing Team, said the victim has been left particularly distressed by the incident.

She said: "The offender or offenders targeted an elderly man alone in his home and stole a number of items, including more than 50 metal cap badges which the victim had been collecting over 50 years.

"They also stole a number of medals, including a Hilperton ARP Defence Medal, a Hilperton ARP War Medal, a National Service Medal, a Cadet Forces Medal, and 12 Red Cross badges.

"We have been making enquiries with local shops and businesses, but also want to appeal to anyone who may have seen these items offered for sale."
