A choir from Cornwall has sailed through to the next round of Britain’s Got Talent after impressing the judges with an Elton John classic.

The Truro Cathedral Choir stunned the four judges - and the millions of viewers at home - with their moving rendition of Sir Elton’s Can You Feel The Love Tonight? on Saturday night.

In fact, Simon Cowell, David Walliams, Alesha Dixon and Amanda Holden were so impressed, they gave the choir a standing ovation.

Christopher Gray, Truro Cathedral’s director of music, said it was at this precise moment he thought “maybe this has gone alright”.

I think the energy, the electricity and the atmosphere when we walked on stage at the London Palladium, it’s not like anything I’ve ever experienced before so it was quite something.

I think it was at that moment when I turned around at the end and saw the judges on their feet and I thought maybe it’s gone alright.

Following their performance on Saturday night, Truro Cathedral Choir were quickly named one of the favourites - with odds to win the competition as low as 16/1.

Christopher revealed the choir will find out if they’ve made it through to the live semi-finals this weekend.

Someone sent me a text earlier saying we’re 16/1 in the bookies to win it but I think that’s just, I mean, who knows? I have no idea [if we’ll win].
