This is the shocking moment a car burst into flames on the M5 motorway in Somerset.

Video footage captured by a passing motorist shows firefighters tackling the blaze at the side of the road earlier today (May 30).

The incident, which was reported around 4.50pm, resulted in a southbound lane closure between junctions 23 and 24.

In a statement, Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said the car was destroyed by the fire.

Highways England confirmed the lane was reopened at 5.40pm but traffic in the area remains congested, so warned motorists to expect delays.
