Armed police surround house in Honiton

There's a large number of emergency service vehicles in a residential area of Honiton this morning.

Devon and Cornwall police say there is an ongoing incident at a house in Chestnut Way. They are concerned about the welfare of a woman inside.

Witnesses have reported at least six police cars and four ambulances.

Police were called to Chestnut Close, Honiton, at around 4am this morning following reports for the concern of the welfare of a woman in a property.

Ambulance attended the scene as well as police negotiators and armed officers.

The woman in question was initially taken into police custody at the scene and was subsequently handed over to the care of medical professionals. She has since been taken to the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital.

Police enquiries continue into this matter.

Neighbours say they were told to stay inside the their homes as police shouted at a woman to come out with her hands where they could see them.
