Wartime tank shells safely detonated on Kilve Beach in Somerset

A number of tank shells have been safely detonated after washing up on Kilve Beach in Somerset.

A cache of 15 shells were uncovered by the tide on Saturday (3 August) sparking a multi-agency response.

Avon and Somerset Police placed a cordon across the affected area before the Royal Navy bomb disposal team arrived to carry out a controlled explosion.

The local Watchet Coastguard shared images of the cache on Twitter, stressing the public should never touch "anything suspicious on the shoreline" and instead call the coastguard.
