The last week has seen the weather take a turn for the worst and many are asking the same question they asked back in June - Where has Summer gone?
Whilst it’s frustrating for all of us, it’s worth noting down for future plans statistically August is the wettest of the three summer months. Also, if we look back at the past decade it’s possible to spot an unsettled trend in August.
At the moment we have a very powerful Atlantic Jet Stream that has nosedived southwards and for the last week or so has fired several different weather systems our way.
Last night we saw an area of low pressure bring another steady period of rain making for a miserable start to Wednesday. There’s more showers forecast tomorrow, with another low pressure system already swirling its way towards us for Friday, by which time we would have had a month's rainfall in 7 days across the southwest.
Spare a thought for holiday makers here in the southwest who will have to continue making the most of any gaps between systems and do their best to dodge the showers forecast for the rest of this week. However, the rain on Friday will be unavoidable for all.
