Nine snakes have been found dumped outside a vet's surgery in Somerset.

They were found in a plastic box outside a surgery in Frome in the early hours of Saturday 17 August.

The RSPCA is now appealing for any information relating to the incident.

According to RSPCA inspector Hayley Lawrence, the snakes - all corn snakes - "are in reasonable condition despite being dehydrated."

She said: "It is never acceptable to dump an animal. If people are struggling to look after their pets, there are many charities and organisations who are able to help."

The animal welfare charity is now allowing two weeks for an owner to come forward. If they don't, the snakes will be re-homed.

Information on keeping reptiles can be found on the RSPCA website.
