Plymouth Argyle manager Ryan Lowe has said he has been left “gutted” after his former club Bury was expelled from the English Football League (EFL).

The League One club, which Lowe departed in the summer after guiding them to promotion, were expelled on Tuesday (August 27) night after a last-minute takeover bid collapsed.

They are the first team to drop out of the EFL since Maidstone’s liquidation in 1992.

Lowe, reacting to the club’s demise on Twitter, said he was “absolutely gutted”.

Absolutely gutted. Can’t describe how am feeling at this moment!
