A student has been sentenced to eight months in jail after threatening to shoot fellow classmates at Exeter University in June.
Yihe Xiong took a replica gun onto campus and said he would "randomly open fire" if his presentation didn't go to plan.
The 25-year-old from China said he had 12 bullets loaded into the replica Beretta 92 weapon, sparking a major armed police response.
The armed officers attended Streatham campus after the masters student then pointed the gun at a student sat behind him saying "Here's another target".
He told the court he did not have a grudge against any of his classmates and said he only intended to fool them for a short period of time.
Firearm officers only discovered the weapon was a replica once they had physically examined it.
Xiong admitted possessing an imitation firearm with intent to cause fear of violence. He was sentenced to eight months at Exeter Crown Court.
