With the third General Election in five years fast approaching, big names in the West Country have already announced they will not be standing in their constituencies this time around.

The North Devon MP has cited 'personal reasons' for standing down from his post at the upcoming general election.

He beat Lib Dem MP Nick Harvey to win the seat at the 2015 general election, and says his 'full support' will be behind the next Conservative candidate.

She also served as Minister of State at the Department for Work and Pensions from November 2017 to March 2019 and was Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at the Home Office from 17 July 2016 to 9 November 2017.

The former Energy Minister took over the seat in 2009, but has announced she will not stand for re-election in her Devizes constituency - now a key target for the Liberal Democrats.

She says she remains in "full support of our PM and his brave Brexit strategy".

  • East Devon - Sir Hugo Swire, Con

Sir Hugo Swire has been a staple in the House of Commons since taking his seat in 2000.

He served in the shadow cabinet, as well as holding office as Minister of State for Northern Ireland and then Minister of State for the Foreign Commonwealth under a Conservative Government.
