Swindon mum's hair set alight by robbers in park

A young mother's hair was set on fire by two robbers as she pushed her six-month-old baby in a pushchair around Shaftesbury Lake yesterday (18 November).

Siobhan Regan was walking her dog with her baby son at around 10am when she was approached by two men asking for a cigarette.

She claims when she told them she didn't smoke, one of the men grabbed her by the hair and pulled her head down, using his leg to hold her down before he set her hair on fire. Meanwhile, the other stood behind her pram laughing and taunting her.

Siobhan told ITV News that while she screamed and her dog barked, they laughed, before one slapped her in the face. The men then took her phone and left.

Siobhan has been left with bruising to her face, and she's had to cut off the hair that was singed.

The young mother is recovering at home, but she says she's been left anxious after the unprovoked attack in a park that's popular with dog walking.

This incident is obviously very concerning and would have been frightening for the woman involved. We are very keen to hear from anyone who was in the area and may have seen these two men and could help with our enquiries.

We have also received a report of an incident in the same location yesterday where a woman was approached by a man in similar circumstances but he appeared to be spooked by a member of the public and he made off.

We will be increasing patrols in the area following today's incident and would ask anyone with information to call us on 101.
