A pensioner has died after becoming trapped underneath a vehicle driven by her "life-long friend".
Police were called to All Saints' Church on Exeter Road in Exmouth on Tuesday (10 December) after the 84-year-old woman became trapped beneath the car in the church car park.
Both the woman and the driver of the car, also 84-years-old, had been attending an over 60s Christmas event held in the church hall.
A statement from the church confirmed the pair were "life-long friends".
Police, paramedics, and the fire service all attended the incident which happened shortly after 4:45pm on Tuesday - the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
In a statement, Father Owen Murphy of All Saints' Church said the community was "saddened and devastated" by the incident.
The church community at All Saints Church, Exmouth, is saddened and devastated by the tragic collision on 10 December, involving two life-long friends, following a local over 60s group Christmas event which had been held in the church hall.
The church is open for people to offer "prayers and to light a candle".
Police are carrying out a "thorough investigation" and the road was closed on Tuesday night for a "forensic examination".
