Police are investigating an incident at stables in the Pitway Hill area of South Petherton in which two horses were injured.

The horses, one female and one male, suffered cuts on their faces caused by a sharp object, possibly a knife.

The attack is thought to have happened overnight on Wednesday 4 December.

Both horses needed emergency treatment, including stitches and staples, and are on medication.

This is a very disturbing attack on two horses for no apparent motive.

While offences like this are very rare, we’d encourage horse owners in the area to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the police.
