Man arrested following death of 90-year-old man in suspected "hit and run" in Dorset

A man has been arrested following the death of a 90-year-old pedestrian in a suspected "hit and run" accident in Charmouth last night (23 January).

The collision happened at the junction of The Street and Lower Sea Lane at 7pm.

Members of the public, police officers and paramedics tried to help but the male pensioner died at the scene.

The road remains closed whilst an investigation is underway.

A 40-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the accident.

Officers are appealing for witnesses to come forwards.

Our thoughts are with the man’s family at this very distressing time.

We are investigating the circumstances of this collision and I am appealing to anyone who was in the area of The Street at the relevant time and witnessed what happened to please contact me.

I would also like to hear from any motorists who were travelling along that road at the relevant time and may have captured the incident on dashcam.
