A mother-to-be from Plympton had quite a surprise when she went for her 20 week scan at Derriford Hospital in Plymouth and saw her unborn baby staring back at her.

Jo Greer was left 'highly amused" by the photo, which quite clearly shows her baby's face with its eyes staring right into the lens. The 34-year-old said the sonographer told her that a baby looking into the endoscope during a scan is "quite rare".

So we’ve all seen the standard, cute sideways scan pictures, but this is ours. Of course we got the usual scan pics, but then baby turned to face the camera which is apparently quite rare and highly amusing.

Jo, who is a fitness instructor in Plympton, said she and her partner have chosen to keep the baby's sex a surprise. She added: "It is so funny, we all nearly wet ourselves laughing. The midwife laughed and said, 'That doesn’t happen often'."

Jo said she plans to put the picture on her child's birthday cards. She said: "So many people have 'liked' it and messaged. I don’t think anyone has seen a scan picture like that before. I’ll definitely put that pic on the child’s 18th birthday card."
