Lightning strike sets house on fire in Plymouth

A house in Plymouth caught fire after being struck by lightning during a thunderstorm last night [February 18].

Emergency services were called to Dumfries Avenue in the Crownhill area of the city during a loud thunderstorm at around eight o'clock.

Neighbours have said there was an 'almighty bang' before the house caught fire.

  • Owner of the house, Colin Oxenham says it has left him and his wife feeling like 'there's been a death in the family.'

The fire broke out in the roof, and large flames could be seen coming from the house.

Devon & Somerset Fire Service said that all of the people in the house were accounted for.
