Tributes have been paid for a woman shot dead at her home in Somerset.

Debbie Zurick was killed at her country cottage and is a neighbour of the Prime Minister's father. Stanley Johnson said his family is "shocked, stunned and saddened".

Police were called to a property just outside the village of Winsford on Exmoor after reports of a gunshot at about 2.30pm on Saturday 22 February.

The 56-year-old was seriously injured when they arrived, and despite treatment she died shortly after.

Both I and my whole family are shocked, stunned and saddened by this tragic incident. We very much regret the passing of Mrs Zurick. She was a neighbour and she was much loved. She was honorary secretary of the Working Clumber Spaniel Society and was much loved for the work she did, in the society and in Exmoor and beyond."

A 67-year-old man - who is in custody - was also injured by a shotgun. He was airlifted to hospital with life threatening injuries and now remains in a stable but critical condition.

A second woman, who is being treated as a key witness, was found nearby and uninjured.

Investigations are underway at the property and a cordon remains in place.

This is a very serious incident in which a woman has lost her life and we are deploying family liaison officers to support the next of kin.The scene remains cordoned off so further forensic inquiries and searches can take place over the next few days.
