Coins will no longer be accepted on Bristol's Clifton Suspension Bridge from Friday due to coronavirus
Staff at Clifton Suspension Bridge in Bristol will no longer be accepting coin payments for tolls from Friday 27 March because of coronavirus. The trust that runs the bridge says it is a temporary measure to protect both employees and users.
Drivers will be able to pay the £1 toll using contactless credit or debit cards, mobile phones, smart watches as well as bridge crossing cards, available from www.cliftonbridge.org.uk.
A one-way system has also been introduced on pedestrian footways on the bridge. Mr Booy added: "We are also asking joggers and runners to stop running when they cross the bridge but instead walk at the speed of pedestrians to maintain the recommended two metre social distancing."
The bridge remains open as a commuter route to vehicles, cyclists and pedestrians.
