People urged to stay away from crumbling pier after four rescues in ten days

People are being urged to stay away from the crumbling Birnbeck Pier in North Somerset.

Weston-super-Mare's lifeboat crew rescued three people on Wednesday (April 29) evening after they were cut off by the tide. It's the fourth time they've had to carry out a rescue from Birnbeck Island in ten days.

Weston Seafront rangers, Avon and Somerset Police and Weston-Super-Mare Coastguard Rescue Team all helped in Wednesday's incident, as well as the RNLI crew.

The RNLI says the lives of emergency service workers are also being put at risk.

Our crew is currently separated into two teams to minimise contact so we can continue to provide our lifesaving service.
